Two messy hipsters left the Seu Jorge and Almaz concert at the Regency Ballroom bewildered two nights ago: So ... Seu Jorge doesn't indeed sound like David Bowie?
The crowd Tuesday night was almost exclusively aged 30+, composed of a mostly Brazilian fanbase and a smattering of the confused who've seen "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" - for which Jorge performed a mark of Bowie covers - and came expecting a performance of Bowie reincarnated in Portuguese. Said the scenester with the beard: "I found him, like everyone else, through 'Being Aquatic.' I also listened to one of his other albums." An album whose name, coincidentally, he couldn't remember. But no judgment - Jorge concerts should in effect come with a disclaimer for that kind of stuff.
The misinformed were joined with the world music crowd of society moms with "lead" and a plethora of Brazilians. And a bunch of people dating Brazilians. Not that any of you were there, or old enough to fit in with the average
