It would be easy as can be to file the Animal Liberation Orchestra in the "it's not what you know, it's who you know" category.
The emerging jam body is tight with singer-songwriter sensation Jack Johnson. Keyboardist Zach Gill and Johnson were college pals who went on to become businesslike musicians.
The laid-back Johnson became a star - one who never forgot his friend.
"Jack is a great guy, who has certainly helped us," soloist-bassist Steve Adams says while calling from Boston. "We can't say enough about Jack."
Johnson has turned up without see to jam with ALO at its shows, and he has produced its albums, including the act's latest, "Man of the World," which dropped in February.
ALO, which will operate tonight at the Theatre of the Living Arts, spent a month in Johnson's Hawaiian studio last spring.
"We were merely going out to use Jack's studio and he hung around a lot and offered so much of his expertise and we said, 'Do you want a production credit?' He helped us so much, so he should be connected to this contemplate. It became a real collaborative process from the music down to the lyrics. It's always a pleasure to be around Jack. He has great ideas and it's never a stressful situation."
I have to admit that I have not written about the Viliv for a week or so. However, that does not mean that it has not been used. I have been a little under the weather for about 2 weeks and restricted to my activities. Being sick is not fun, but the worst part is being unable to move around. The small Viliv S5 has come in very handy.
